You could ask customers how they found out about you but this strategy is not always very successful. With social media marketing, you have access to several tools that provide you with detailed reports on how many people responded to your campaign and what their responses were i.e. they only clicked a particular post or even end up buying something from you. In a nutshell, social media marketing has conventional marketing beat in terms of analytical offerings.

TV ads, printed advertisements, banners, billboards etc. are all means of conventional marketing. By simply looking at these methods of marketing you can imagine how limited they are in the number of people they can target. With a newspaper, you can only get your message across the people of a particular region. Your TV ad might also be available only within the cities and states of your own country. Billboards have a very small reach compared to TV ads and the same goes for banners. With social media marketing, you literally have no boundaries. Your marketing message reaches people from all around the world. However, you have to think of ways to make your ad appeal to a global audience too.

There is no doubt about the fact that it is marketing that takes away a big chunk of the revenue earned by a business. Conventional marketing has been notorious for being extremely expensive. A TV ad might cost you by seconds it appears on the screen. With material marketing your costs increase as you get more material printed. Depending on the stock, matter and material you choose for printed marketing, your costs can keep going high. On the other hand, much of the social media marketing can be done free of cost. If you wish to take advantage of target marketing offered by social networks, you will still pay a cost that is only a fraction of what you will spend on conventional marketing.

The SEO Benefits

In addition to just marketing your business, social media marketing contributes to your website’s search engine optimization. If you are able to gain backlinks through your interesting posts, your website ranking starts getting better on search results. If you look at conventional marketing, there are absolutely no search engine optimization benefits of this type of marketing. Your TV ads, newspaper ads or billboards do not contribute to making your website rise in ranks. The SEO benefit of social media marketing is a great plus when you realize that you have to spend money separately just for search engine optimization.

If you have a brick and mortar business where one of your needs is to have foot traffic, you can gain great benefits from conventional marketing too. However, social media marketing stays relevant whether you have a brick and mortar business, an online business or one that’s both.
